This year‘s Commemoration of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings is on Friday, August 7th, downtown, and as usual we will paddle the Willamette to close the ceremony. This is a twilight event timed to be off the water at Michael‘s Landing before dark. As in previous years, the canoes and kayaks will be lit with Japanese-style lanterns. The floating procession is intended to be a solemn experience, in keeping with the theme of remembrance of the victims of the bombings. People participating in the downtown ceremony will walk out onto the bridge to watch us pass.
