This is a Scouting run of an unknown to us section of the Calapooia with the thinking of learning what is there for possible utilization of this run at higher flows in the future. We have not done this run before. Flow is about 30-40cfs, enough to grind past gravel bars. It will be shallow and boney gravel bars with paddle-able pools. Best success will be in shallow drafting plastic canoes and IK‘s Paddle distance may be 7.5 miles. Launch is below the falls at McKercher and looks like shallow gravely creek, and brush may impinge on the channel in places.

The Lower Calapooia to Confluence about 3 miles. We laid eyes on the Calapooia tonight and realized there is enough of a trickle to squeeze out a boney Summer ride. Flow is about 30-40cfs, enough to keep the pools filled and to grind down through the gravel bars. Your best success will be in shallow drafting paddle craft such as plastic canoes, larger plastic kayaks, and IK‘s. This paddle is suitable for beginners. Register for this paddle on the WKCC website to receive Email with specific information about the launch, shuttle, and takeout. (registering activates your club insurance)
