Wednesday After Work, Lower Calapooia Class 1+
The Lower Calapooia to its confluence with the Willamette River, 3.5 miles. This section has a lot of features making the river dance and gurgle while adding a minor technical edge to it. The river is shallow gradient keeping it docile and safe, it will present with wood, about 5 gravel bars, about 3 low ledges. The river level is very desirable this week, This river will diminish to a trickle and be unusable by late Summer. This paddle is highly suitable for learners and newbies, in most areas if there should be an upset one can simply stand up in knee deep water & self recover. Dry suits probably not needed, it would suffice to carry a polar fleece jacket in a water proof bag. Launch & takeout are primitive - not developed. The launch was a muddy beach, wear water shoe's
Kayak Skag not suitable, will get broken. Short plastic kayaks or inflatables of all types would work well.
Register for this paddle on the WKCC website to receive an Email giving details about the launch and takeout.
