About this event
This section of the Marys River has consistent but mild gradient. It's mostly moving water less than Class 1 punctuated by some Class 2 rapids. There's a little more action in the last couple miles before the take-out.
I ran this with Steve Snyder a couple weeks ago on a weekday, and I wanted to offer up a trip when people who still have to show up to some silly job on weekdays could get out. This is it.
The river has some really nice scenery. In fact, I might hike up to Fitton Green on Friday so I can look up again and say, "Hey - I was up there yesterday." There may be some wood to avoid. A couple weeks ago at about 1000 cfs we went over some trees that might now be above the surface and make for a little challenge. For sure swimming here is not a good idea because of all the wood, but for a seasoned paddler who can stay in the boat, it's just a nice relaxing day with scenery.
I really like when there's a steep wall on one side and a riparian gallery forest on the other. Ask me about "Cookie Rapid."
Since it's Class 2, you must have a helmet. You must have appropriate immersion protection (dry suit or appropriate thickness wet suit). Weather might by shitty, so there's that.
Plan on nine miles with a lunch stop.
Plan to meet near the Cedar Mill unless we decide something else. We'll scout the shitty take-out and leave some vehicles at the bottom and go up to our planned put-in. I have two in mind. We'll choose one of them.
